Uma Basu was born in London and went to Bancroft ’s School and Queen Mary College, University of London where she qualifi ed as a doctor. From an early age, Uma started learning to play piano and Indian classical singing. She continues to develop her skill as a singer under the tutelage of Mrs Aarti Bhattacharya.

Uma regularly sings on special occasions at the Ramakrishna Mission at Bourne End as well as at other functions. Uma’s repertoire this evening will consist of devotional songs, in Bengali and Hindi.

Mukut Bhowmik was born in India and trained as a doctor, specialising in HIV. Currently, he is pursuing a master’s programme in International Public Health at Queen Mary University of London. Mukut’s other love in life is dance. He started learning Kuchipudi when he was 3 and started performing at events when he was 5. Th is evening, Mukut will present his rendering of the expressive and agile South Indian classical dance form, Kuchipudi, that celebrates Krishna.
