The Chitravina is one of the most exquisite musical instruments in the world today. Also referred to as Gotuvadyam, it is the forerunner of many instruments like the fretted veena and is also recognised (in the West) as the prototype of the Hawaiian Guitar. It has also been referred to, at various times, as Mahanataka veena and Hanumad veena. The chitravina is one of the more popular instruments today, having been featured in several leading International festivals.

In showcasing one of the legendary instrumental concerts in London, the evening will feature a grand Chitravina concert by the prodigious talent from India, Sri P Ganesh. As a unique artistic collaboration, the performance will also feature UK-based dancer, choreographer Divya Kasturi.

S.P. Ganesh, world-record setting slide instrumentalist and vocalist, is the grandson of the legendary Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar. He stormed into the world of carnatic music even at the tender age of two and a half. Ganesh also had the rare privilege of learning from Sangeeta Kalanidhi T Brinda for a few years and is among the best Chitravina performers in the country today. In May 2004, he set a record for the longest concert with the slide instrument in the world by playing non-stop for 32 and half hours in Chennai, India. He is an A rank artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan.

Divya Kasturi is a multifaceted artist experienced in the fields of Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music and Kathak, Television and Theatre. She holds a Masters in South Asian Dance and has performed all over the world.
