Shubhada Varadkar

Radha ... Kanupriya has been waiting to join Krishna... her Kanu. Radha here is a symbol of love without her there is only war and misery. “Knupriya” mirrors the life filled with love and devoid of love. The mystery and horror of war diffuses love and there is a great need of awakening this love in our hearts. Based on a collection of beautiful poems of Dr Dharmavir Bharti, “Kanupriya” is Radha’s monolog. “Kaupriya” displays a kaleidoscopic range of emotions, performed in Odissi form by Guru Smt Shubhada Varadkar. Her legendary Guru Shri, Kelucharan Mohapatra sculpted Shubhada to such perfection that even a simple hand gesture looks like a painting. A recipient of senior fellowship by Ministry of culture Govt. of India, Shubhada was awarded titles like ‘Singar Mani’, ‘Mahari’ ‘Natya Veda’ ‘Maharashtra Gaurav’etc.

Dancer and dance Guru par excellence, Shubhada has choreographed productions like ‘Journey to Divinity’, ‘Chitrangada’, ‘Mayurpankha’,and ‘Amrutghanu’.

A postgraduate in Economics, Shubhada was a newscaster with Indian Television in Mumbai, and was a Lecturer in Economics in R.R.Ruia College, Mumbai. But the calls of tinkling anklets made her give up all other careers and devote all her time and energy to Odissi.
