‘A Musical Journey through the Dev Anand Era’ SACF will present ‘A Musical Journey through the Dev Anand Era’ as their first programme in the run-up to the Indian Cinema Century celebrations in 2013. The event will commemorate the life, work and contribution of the Indian film icon, Dev Anand, through his films and timeless musical numbers.

Film Historian Lalit Mohan Joshi will present the programme with a running narrative interspersed with anecdotes and interview inserts. Anand Sundaram will lead the young singers – Avanti Nadkarni, Rajen Shegunshi and Uttara Sukanya Joshi. Guest singers will include Minister (Culture) and Director Nehru Centre, Sangeeta Bahadur, Mamta Gupta, Pt Vishwa Prakash (nephew of Khemchand Prakash of Mahal fame) and Dr. Kusum Pant Joshi. The programme will present a historical perspective of Indian Cinema’s Golden Era where Dev Anand and his film company Navketan, brought together and nurtured great icons of the Indian film industry – S.D. Burman, Sahir Ludhianvi, Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla, Kishore Kumar, Geeta Dutt, Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar. Dev Anand got his first major break in Ziddi (1948) and formed his own film company Navketan in 1949. Over the next three decades he produced classics like Baazi (1951), Taxi Driver (1954), CID (1956), Hum Dono (1961), Guide (1965), Jewel Thief (1967), Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971) and Des Pardes (1978).
