The Emeritus Professor, University of Delhi and Chair Professor, Central University of Hyderabad, Prof Gopichand Narang is a theorist, literary critic and scholar, whose perceptive writings containing the results of a focused critical acumen have helped Urdu literary criticism in getting itself extricated from the narrow confines of orthodoxy and to keep pace with modern times. Prof Narang has made a seminal contribution in developing an in stylistics, structuralism, post-structuralism and Eastern poetics with remarkable thoroughness and imagination. Prof. Narang writes extensively in Urdu and English with equal felicity and has been consistently working towards a well-defined congruous literary poetics fully alive to the aesthetic sensibility not only of Urdu, but of the entire body Indian literature.

Prof Narang has received many awards from the government of India and Pakistan and many literary organizations worldwide. He was awarded Padma Bhushan (2004), the Sahitya Akademi Award (1993) for Literary criticism. The president of the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters, 2003 to 2007, he was also on the editorial board of Akademi’s journal, Indian Literature.
