The Institute is a highly respected educational charity situated in Kingsbury, North London which provides lifelong learning for students of all ages and from many different backgrounds. Founded in 1908 it accommodates some 3000 students in newly refurbished, spacious studio spaces and offers a range of subjects in areas which include Art and Design, languages and humanities.

The Art Foundation course is dedicated to equipping students with the necessary skills with which to progress to higher education or for other career choices in the fields of art and design. We believe strongly that students should be provided with a structured grounding in key core skills which they can take forward creatively to express themselves through their art. We also believe that students should have the opportunity to experience as many different disciplines in art and design so that they can make informed decisions about the mediums of their choice. The Art Foundation Course provides them with the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects which include drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking as well as digital art and art history. The course is co-ordinated by Nicky Pinder who is in charge of the Art Department and the senior lecturer is Bob Rothero who is himself a practising artist.
