Distinguished actress, Zohra Segal, recipient of the Padma Vibhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, turns 100 this year. To celebrate her life and achievements, short talks, sketches and reminiscences on her span in India and the UK will be presented. 

Segal began her career with dancer Uday Shankar in 1935, joined Prithvi Theatre and later moved to study in the UK, where she lived for three decades. She made a niche for herself in the film, television and theatre landscape; some highlights include Parosi (BBC), The Jewel in the Crown (1984), Tandoori Nights (Channel 4, 1985–87), The Guru (1969), Bhaji on the Beach (1993), and Sawariya (2007). Her famous stage performances include A Touch of Brightness (1967), The Great Celestial Cow (1984) at the Royal Court; Hedda in India (Actors Unlimited, 1983) and The Yearning (Tamasha Theatre, 1995). She appeared in the acclaimed play, Ek thi Nani, with her sister, Uzra Butt. In 2008, she was felicitated as ‘Ladli of the Century’ at the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) Ladli Media Awards where Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, presented her with the award.
