There is hardly any land in the world where Sufism flourished so vastly and intensively as it did in the Indian sub-continent where the environment under Vedic influence was congenial and receptive to the messages of love and spirituality. As the Vedic culture spread far and wide in the sub-continent it influenced the myriad languages of this part of the world, assigning them a mystical dimension.

In such circumstances, Sufism in Indian sub continent flourished from Kashmir to Cape Comorin and from Multan to Assam. In every village across the sub-continent, there lived a Sufi whose shrine is still an important centre of social and spiritual activities shared by the people of all castes and creeds.
