Pravasi Hindi Sahitya has become an important part of the Mainstream Hindi Literature. At one time Hindi literature of Mauritius, Surinam, Fiji and Trinidad was considered to be the Pravasi Hindi Sahitya. People of Indian origin were taken to these countries for indentured labour and later came to be called ‘Girmitia’. The literature written by them is known as Girmitia Literature.

For the last quarter of a century Hindi literature has been created in the USA, Canada, Britain, Europe, The Gulf, Australia and Japan.
