A poet, dramatist, musician, painter, philosopher, actor weaver, composer, the much travelled social reformer and the fountain head of the great Neo-Vaisnavite movement and Satra institutions of Assam, Sankaradeva inspired an artistic and cultural Renaissance in the State. The exquisite figured silk exhibited at the British Museum, Vrindavani Vastra, depicting the childhood of Krishna, was woven under his direction.

The programme includes the release of a cassette, Dokho Avatar An orchestral odyssey of Borgeet by Jayanta Pathak, veteran composer, born in Assam known as the King of Remixes in the Indian Music Circle, who can most fittingly be called a Juggler during 90′s and 2000′s. He is a well known music producer, who has recently composed the music for the film, Naachle London (www.jaymusicproductions.com). Sharodi Saikia, a leading exponent of Sattriya dance, is the Director of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati (The Premier Cultural Institution of Assam)

Speakers: Richard Blurton, Head of the South Asian Section in the Department of Asia, British Museum, including power point presentation of Vrindavani Vastra, Dr Audrey Cantlie, author of The Assamese and Reader Emeritus in Anthropology at SOAS and Dr Nicolas Sutton, Director of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.
