Vidya Ranjith, a homemaker from Kannur, has been passionate about painting since a very young age. Her love for painting took wing during her school days when she began to use water color as a medium for bringing forward her creative side.
Her creativity manifested itself through numerous mediums, including acrylic paintings, sculpture, drawings and sketches. Her first painting ‘Lost Paradise’ shows a wide range of experiments with form and colour, and has a dynamic but silent spirit. Her use of shading gives depth to her paintings and reflects the town she lives in. Her exhibition, Abstracted Reveries, is all about the juncture of rural and urban living portraying rustic women and men from various walks of life. The paintings also reflect upon the deviousness of urbanization, throwing light on the importance of sustainability of Mother Nature for a better tomorrow. Although the paintings and their themes have evolved through time, feminine emotions continue to dominate as the central theme. Her newer works give prominence to a rich fusion of rural and modern women through the celebration of their emotional freedom. Today Vidya’s paintings have become popular with art connoisseurs, and form a part of private collections in South Africa, Paris, New York and London.
