Kiranpal Singh is a leading Santoor player and one of the foremost and senior disciples of the Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. Kiranpal came from Tanzania where he spent his early years before coming to England. On his arrival here he turned to his first love for tabla which he pursued under Ripudhamman Singh Plaha of Punjab Gharana. It was Kiranpal’s tabla recital which impressed Satguru Jagjit Singh Maharaj which enabled him to start his training on the santoor with Satguruji’s patronage. Kiranpal was initiated into the traditional master - disciple ceremony in Mumbai where he completed ten years of intensive study with the santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. He mastered the subtleties and intricacies of the sensitive 100 stringed instrument in a commanding way and for his dedication he is considered today as one of the leading disciples of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma in Europe. Admired by both audiences and critics, his mastery of the advanced techniques of the instrument, combined with a creative flair and spontaneous imagination, has developed a recognizable individuality in his performances.
