This exhibition recreates some of the recurrent motifs, themes and techniques in paintings of the Mughal courts of India with highly idealized leisure scenes that emulate its grandeur. The technique emphasizes on the painterly rather than the line; giving a cartoonish two dimensional outlook with some fine detail and fine outlining, some Persian elements, gouache paint on paper. Intricate and colorful ornamental mounts and frames give these leisure scenes the unmistakable look of Indian miniatures. Thematically, this genre shows humans in harmony with nature, lush foliage, friendly animals, princes, ascetics, musicians, hunting scenes, parades, idle afternoons in walled gardens, terraces and pavilions, and overall, courts of pleasure lovers.
