About Nehru Centre
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous organisation affiliated to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, runs 34 other cultural centres besides London, including in Berlin, Moscow, Johannesburg, Cairo and Colombo. These centres function as part of the diplomatic missions of the Government of India of those countries with the objective of serving as windows into the composite culture of India.
The Centre organises a wide range of cultural events on its premises, showcasing Indian music, dance and theatre, besides a range of activities aimed at strengthening and deepening the intellectual dialogue between the two
As we wind up the first quarter of the Year of Culture, we are delighted to note how well the events were received. The panel discussions on ‘Religion and the Empowerment of Women: A multi faith perspective’ and ‘Healing Hands: Women’s health and holistic remedies from Asia’ highlighting Ayurveda, Jamu and Acupuncture were held to mark the International Women’s Day. An Exhibition of Ajrakh, a dying art form, showcasing masterpieces of the national awardee was very much appreciated. So was His Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda’s talk on Yoga-Vedanta concepts in traditional meditation practices and Clem Alford’s Sitar concert.
