In this beautiful performance, Alokparna Guha will take the audience on a journey through the history of Kathak, one of India’s classical dance forms.
The performance will begin with the early days of Kathak, when it started in temples. In those times, storytellers called Kathakars used to tell stories from the Puranas and other holy texts. They used hand movements, facial expressions, and gentle dance steps to bring these stories to life.
Next, the performance will move to a time when foreign rulers came to India. During this period, Kathak changed and started to include more technical steps to impress royal audiences. It also took in elements of Indo-Islamic culture.
The story will then reach the time of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, who loved dance and music. Under his support, Thumri music and creative dance pieces became an important part of Kathak.
In the final part, Alokparna will show how Kathak looks today—modern, strong, and performed on big stages across the world.
This performance will show how Kathak has grown over time, while keeping its connection to the past.
