Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan (b. 1954) is an elder statesman of the tradition of the sarod, one of the best-known Indian classical musical instruments. He is an eighth- generation descendant of the family that invented the sarod approximately 200 years ago. Khan was trained by great sarod maestros, which include his illustrious uncle, Ustad Ilyas Khan, and his father, Ustad Umar Khan.
has lectured on music history at a number of universities. He is fluent in many languages and taught for several years at the Afghan National Institute of Music in Kabul, with which he remains associated as an Emeritus Professor.
Matyas Wolter is a highly specialized instrumentalist devoted to Hindustani music. As a player of sitar and surbahar (bass-sitar) with more than twenty years of experience, Matyas stands out among the very few European exponents of this rare art form as a virtuoso performer and an in-depth researcher of the music and its historic modes of presentation.
Matyas received his initial training from Pt. Subroto Roy Chowdhury during many years spent in his first teachers Kolkata household. Since Subrotos demise in 2017 Matyas sought further guidance under Ustad Irfan Khan — head of the ancient Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana of instrumental music.
