This Bharatanatyam programme explores the idea of crossings: the quiet, continuous movement between emotional states, identities, and senses of belonging. Drawing on the dance form's rich expressive and movement vocabulary, the work considers how we shift and change - from within and without - often subtly, repeatedly, and without announcement. Through a selection of pieces, the performance traces these crossings in their various manifestations: a character carried from one emotional world into another, the body pulled from stillness into full force, and the dancer themself drawn from one sense of self into another.
Neha Venkatesh is a Seattle-based Bharatanatyam dancer and disciple of Smt. Shweta Prachande. She has performed at several local and international venues including Parthasarathy Swami Sabha and Brahma Gana Sabha in Chennai, as well as in Geneva, Tokyo, New York, Austin, Seattle, and California. In 2025, she toured North America with Priyadarsini Govind’s production Yavanika. A 2026 Lotus Fellow of ArtisIndiaUs, Neha has also been recognised by the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana and the National YoungArts Foundation, and received the "Best Lead" award at the 2024 National Origins Championship. She is a recent graduate of the University of Washington, where she studied Informatics and Dance.
