Lecture: Mahatma Gandhi: The Sovereignty of Conscience and the Responsibilities of Public Life
Drawing upon his experiences in public service and his engagement with Gandhian thought, Mr. Virendra Sharma will offer a personal exploration of Mahatma Gandhi’s ethical vision and its enduring resonance in contemporary public life.
The talk will examine the relationship between conscience and power, conviction and compromise, and individual integrity and collective responsibility. Reflecting on Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence and service, Mr. Sharma will consider how these ideals can illuminate the dilemmas of leadership, nurture social harmony and strengthen our commitment to the common good.
Moving beyond commemoration, the session will invite reflection on what it means to translate moral conviction into purposeful public action, presenting Gandhi’s legacy as both an intellectual inheritance and a continuing call to ethical responsibility.
