Vishwas Shirgaonkar
Get Direction

Vishwas Shirgaonkar had his early training from Pt. Rajabhau Kogaje and Pt. Yeshwantbua Joshi of the Gwalior Gharana. Subsequently he received training for over 18 years in the Jaipur/Atrauli gayaki from Pt. Anandrao Limaye, and Pt. Ratnakar Pai of the Jaipur Gharana.

His singing maintains the speciality and purity of style of the Jaipur gharana, its solid foundation of bandish, its many-stranded elaboration of the raag, its play with the laya and its complex taan patterns. In a musical atmosphere leaning towards eclecticism, Vishwas Shirgaonkar has enthralled knowledgeable audiences with his exposition of both popular and esoteric raagas and compositions of the Jaipur gharana. His singing reassures the contemporary audiences that gharana based aesthetic principles are far from outdated.

Vishwas has been presenting concert performances over the last 30 years in prestigious venues, music circles and music conferences India and the US. He is currently President of India Spiritual and Cultural Center based in Virginia, USA, engaged in promoting Hindustani Classical arts and languages in the US. Vishwas is a recipient of a grant from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, to pursue research in Stylistic Changes in Jaipur/Atrauli gharana gayaki. He frequently presents lecture-demonstrations on the subject in music academies in India.

Accompanied by Pulkit Sharma and Rishikesh Kardile.
