Rabindra Jayanti

Tagore and Indian Independence
Get Direction

The birth anniversary of Bengal’s greatest poet, songwriter, and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore.

Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated every year in early May at venues in Kolkata, Bengal, and throughout the world.

This year, to mark 75 years of India’s independence, performances will focus on Tagore’s celebrated patriotic compositions that inspired Indian freedom fighters in Bengal and throughout India.

The performances will be by accomplished UK-based singers, dancers, and actors who have performed on stage at several venues in the UK and in India:

  • Tanushree Guha – renowned Rabindra-sangeet exponent who launched her solo album and performed live on radio and TV in India, and in events in Europe and England.

  • Bidisha Datta – accomplished dancer who has performed at various UK events including the Bloomsbury Festival.

  • Koushik Chatterjee – talented actor and director who has performed on stage and in movies, and has directed several plays in the UK and in India
