September is the birth month of the Bard of the Brahmaputra, popularly known as Sudhakantha & Jajabor (the wanderer) Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
To celebrate his Bharat Ratna , the highest civilian honour bestowed upon him posthumously by the Govt of India earlier this year , the evening presents an eclectic evening showcasing the path breaking music of the legend via a performance by renowned violinist Sunita Bhuyan from Mumbai, eminent singer Rabin Goswami from Washington, a recitation of some of his iconic songs by an eminent panel (translated into English by Nasreen Muni Kabir) & a tribute walk of traditional north-eastern attires to salute his passion towards uniting the 7 states.
A writer, a humanist , a social thinker, a composer, lyricist and a maestro singer, Dr. Hazarika's work spreads across intense facets of life and society and some of his songs like "Ganga Behti ho kyon" ( Oh Ganges, why do you flow), "Manuhe Manuhor Baabe" ( People for people ) have become anthems across the world in Assamese , Bengali, Hindi & English.
