Uma was initiated into music at the tender age of five. Since then, Carnatic music has been an integral part of her life and routine, despite other professional commitments. She also holds credit of having been trained under the guidance of experts such as Dr. Radha Venkatachalam, Dr. K. Vageesh and Vidushi Rajarajeshwary Bhat.

Presently, she is blossoming as a solo vocalist under Vidushi Gayathri Venkataraghavan, eminent Carnatic vocalist and teacher, and undergoing intense training on Layam under the wings of Vidwan Erode Nagaraj, renowned Mridangam performer and Teacher.

Uma has performed at The British Parliament: House of Commons in April 2012, Nehru Centre (London), India Habitat Centre (New Delhi), to name a few. Her passion for composing music has led her to be the music Director for dance productions ‘Radhe Radhe. Story of love for the supreme’, ‘Bhakti Sugandham-Fragrance of devotion’ and ‘Ramanuja- a historic Drama’, to name a few.

She is a certified music therapist and has also been teaching music for the past 7 years and has worked with the NGO-Music Basti in New Delhi, to help children in mental healing through music. Uma’s prolonged interest lies in exploring the therapeutic value of music through research and implicating their findings in rehabilitation and healing of the mentally ill.

Besides music, Uma has also been trained in Bharatanatyam for 16 years, under the able tutelage of Smt. Jayalakshmi Eshwar, New Delhi. She has a Masters in Human Resource Management from London School of Economics and Political Science, and is currently working as an HR Leader in the Oil and Gas industry.
