Dance: Kuchipudi – Dance in Dialogue: The three facets of Kuchipudi
Kuchipudi, a classical dance from South India, has evolved over centuries from the itinerant performers of villages to a sophisticated art form. Known for its intricate footwork, rhythm and expressive storytelling, it combines dance, drama and music. In this performance, Vani explores its three aspects: Nritta, the pure dance with precise footwork; Nritya, the expressive dance that conveys emotion; and Natya, storytelling through gesture and movement. Managing energy, timing and expression is a constant challenge - and joy - that makes each performance a unique journey.
Vani Lakshamana Rama Krishna is a London-based Kuchipudi dancer with over 20 years of training, currently learning under Dr Padmini Krishnan, whose guidance has made her journey truly transformative. Under her mentorship, Vani has not only deepened her love for the style but also learned to embrace life fully - balancing her professional career with her passion for dance. Dr Padmini Krishnan often reminds her that one can excel in more than one path, and that life is too short to choose just one. Following this guidance, Vani has discovered new versions of herself - more creative, more inclusive and more open to exploring different cultures, arts and experiences.
Originally from Telangana and raised across South India, her journey has been shaped by diverse cultural influences. Since moving to the UK in 2024, she has performed in nearly 14 events, including TEDx 2025, Diwali celebrations, Interfaith Week, the 100th anniversary celebration of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in London, and community events at Welwyn Hatfield Council, promoting themes of equality, diversity, and inclusion. She was recognised with the Rising Star Award and alongside her professional role as a Talent Acquisition Executive in London, she continues to share her passion through performances and community work, including Kuchipudi Connect, where she manages communications, marketing and branding to engage and grow a vibrant artistic community.
