Chintan Upadhyay
Get Direction

Chintan received his initial tutelage from his parents, both being scholastic teachers of music & musicology and also from their Guru, Shri Laxmipati Shukla, a noted disciple of the legendary musician, Pt. Omkarnath Thakur and Shri Ashvin Andharia, nephew of Late Pt. Rasiklal Andharia. Chintan, joined Lalit Kala Kendra of Pune University for a Master’s degree in Music and received National Scholarship from Government of India; he completed the course under the mentorship of Dr. Vikas Kashalkar and Shri Vijay Koparkar, the noted Classical Khyal Vocalists of Pune.

Chintan surrendered his heart and soul to the tutelage of Guru Pt. Uday Bhawalkar in the true tradition of Guru Shishya Parampara in 2005; Shri Uday Bhawalkar is the standard torch bearer of Dhrupad of today's India, who groomed himself under Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the maestros from the ancient school of music, 'Dagar Vaani', represented by the legendary Dagar family.

Chintan will perform a Dhrupad vocal. The format of the performance would be traditional. ‘Alaap’ in the beginning (the abstract exploration of the melody) and a few compositions in some of the traditional Taalas.

He will be accompanied by a Jodi player – Jasdeep Singh. Jodi is a traditional instrument used for Dhrupad in ancient traditions of Punjab.

Jasdeep Singh started learning Tabla & Jodi from Ustad Sukhvinder Singh ‘Pinky” at the tender age of 13. He also got Taleem of Benaras Gharana from Pt. Sanju Sahai. He has been learning Pakhawaj from Pt. Ravi Shankar Upadhyay recently.
