Draupadi – who changed an epic & fate of dynasties. This particular piece on Draupadi, is an effort to re-think our beliefs, raise questions on the terms set by the patriarchal society. The poem written by Nrityashri Alaknanda & choreographed by her too, sends a thought provoking message about the women in our society who are still subjected to ‘chir-haran’ of all kinds. The events in Draupadi’s life, come to life, through choreographies in Kathak and Bharatnatyam dance forms & the audience are brought to imagine the Mahabharata, through Draupadi’s eyes.

Saumya Shukla & Divya Raturi are alumni of the Alaknanda Institute for Performing Arts and are disciples of Guru, Nrityashri Alaknanda. They hold a graduation degree in Kathak from Gandharva Mahavidyala, Mumbai. Being the senior members of the dance troupe, ‘Alaknanda Sanskriti’ they have not only travelled for performances in India, but also to United Kingdom, Spain, France, Singapore, Poland, Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina and many other countries. Ms.Saumya Shukla is posted by ICCR as a Kathak Dance Teacher & Performer at the Amrita Shergil Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Hungary since March 2016 performing and spreading the awareness of Indian Classical Dance in Hungary & Bosnia & Herzegovina.
