Malyaban Chatterjee is a prominent name in the arena of classical music. He inherits a grand musical heritage starting from Pandit Shiv Kumar Chatterjee, his Grand Uncle and a well-known vocalist, of his time. He started his initial training, at a very tender age of five, under Shri Sunil Neogy, who was the foremost disciple of Pandit Narayan Rao Joshi. Later, he had the privilege of being under the tutelage of the renowned Pandit Manas Chakraborty, son and disciple of Sangeetacharya Trapada Chakraborty. He also has an intensive Talim of Thumri Style in Kirana Gharana and tabla training in the Lucknow style.

Malyaban Chatterjee is a recipient of the Title of Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samity and also Sangeet Visharad from the well-known Prachin Kala Kendra. He has been performing in All India Radio as a young boy and was also selected as an Artist, to sing in the Akash Bani Pujar Gaan under the direction of the well-known Pandit V. Balsara.

Malyaban also performed consecutively for fifteen years 2003 - 2018 in the United Kingdom, in several esteemed Concerts and was highly applauded and deeply appreciated by the audience. Some of these Concerts were broadcasted by BBC. ‘Barrackpore Sangeet Sabha” is his brain child, where many eminent and young artists join every year to perform.
