Baithak presents an evening of Tagore songs, readings and dance to weave links between his music and storytelling. Tagore’s imagery and melodies conjure beautiful stories of the universe, of rural Bengal and of characters, both real and mythical.
Sangeeta Datta pays tribute to her music guru, eminent Tagore artist, Ashoketaru Bandopadhyay, presenting rare songs from Tagore’s repertoire learnt in the Santiniketan style by her teacher.
She invites new singer Jahnabi Banerjee and old Baithak collaborators dancer/choreographer Anusha Subramaniam and Senjuti Das, with ace musicians Soumilya Datta on the violin, Amith Dey on keyboards, Aniruddha on tabla. The concert is produced by Baithak UK, a London based cross-arts platform for celebrating Indian arts heritage in the UK, encouraging dialogue and debate, honouring tradition and fostering new work with fresh artists.
Written and directed by Sangeeta Datta.
Producers: Chandana Sanyal, Subhaluxmi Mukherjee and Jonakee Chandra.
