Prof. Harvinder Singh was initiated into music by his father, Bhai Santa Singh, a noted Gurbani Kirtankar. Being a disciple of the 'Khalifa' of Agra Gharana Ustad Yunus Hussian Khan & Pandit Yashpal. Prof. Singh imbibed the unique traits of 'Agra Gayakee' & inherited a vast repertoire of Uncommon Ragas and Rare compositions. From time to time, he was fortunate to have learned the nuances of 'Khayal Gayakee' from Pt. L.K. Pandit of Gwalior Gharana. The ease with which he renders the different forms of vocal performances matched with technical excellence & aesthetic appeal reveals the depth of understanding & skill of this musician, who readily delineates any Raga, whether common or rare and obsolete, in its purest form & character. Other than Khayal, he is equally proficient in Thumri, Tarana, Dadra, Kafi, and Bhajan.

Besides being an acclaimed performer & A-grade artist of All India Radio, he retired as a Professor in Music from P.G.G.C.G. Sector 11, Chandigarh. He has been awarded 'Sangeet Manishi', 'Kala Shree', Honour by the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Haryana, Yuva Lalit Kala Samman, etc. to name a few. He has trained and nurtured many students in Classical and Light music.
