Gayathri is a well-known Carnatic vocalist from Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. Her Guru is Smt. Saradha Sundar, a disciple of the famous musician M.L. Vasanthakumari. Gayathri started singing at the young age of seven and has given many concerts in various temples in Tamil Nadu. She was awarded ‘Asthana Padagi’ of Sokanathar Temple, Salem.

In 2016, she moved to Waterloo, Canada, and started working as a Music Instructor at Sound Factory Music School, Waterloo. She has performed live at the Big on Bloor Festival of Arts & Culture 2017 in Toronto. Gayathri’s repertoire includes classical Carnatic music and devotional music songs.

In this programme ‘Music from Tamil Bakthi Movement’, Gayathri will perform compositions from early Medieval and Medieval Bhakti movement, singing Thevaram, Naalaiyra Divya Prabhandam, Kolaru pathigam, and Thiruppugazh. This will be followed by 18th to 20th century bhakthi compositions of Uttukadu Venkada Subayyar, Arunachala Kavirayar, Gopala Krishna Bharathi, Papanasam Sivan, Ambujam Krishna, Dandapani Desikar and Kavingar Vaali.
