Music: Ganga Behti Ho Kyun

The Nehru Centre joins the worldwide celebrations marking the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika — the Bard of the Brahmaputra, whose music brought the cultural heritage of Assam and the Northeast to wider audiences. A poet, composer, filmmaker and humanist, Dr. Hazarika earned a PhD in Mass Communication from Columbia University, New York, in 1952.

This special evening marks his 100th birth anniversary and brings his humanist ethos to London through a world-music ensemble featuring some of his best-known songs across languages and traditions. British and Indian musicians come together through his melodies and themes of unity and universal brotherhood, culminating in the vibrant musical traditions of Assam and the Northeast.

The programme is curated and led by renowned violinist Sunita Bhuyan — an evening of music, memory and harmony also featuring eminent singer and nephew of the bard Shri Mayukh Hazarika from Assam.
