An evening of Bengali & Hindi songs of Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadyay, the great singer and composer, will be sung by Soumyen Adhikari, a singer from Kolkata. Soumyen came in touch with the legendary maestro Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, during his early career in music. He was blessed with the affection of Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and was like a son to him and his wife Smt. Bela Mukhopadhyay.
Soumyen Adhikari was born in a family devoted to music. Family ambiance drew him to music and visual art in his early boyhood. Initiated into the A.B.C. of Music by his father Late Golok Nath Adhikari an unsung hero. Later he learnt the Rabindrasangeet,Bengali modern songs from Shri Shyamal Chattopdhyay, Shri Chittopriyo Mukhopadhyay, Sri Probir Mojumder, Sri Amal Mukhopadhyay, Sri Mrinal Bandopadhyay and Kanu Bhattacharya.
Soumyen was awarded ‘Hemanta Smriti Puroskar’ from Bela Mukhopadhyay and Sri Somnath Chatterjee (Lok Sabha Speaker) in 1991 at Rabindra Sadan, Kolkata. He also awarded “Uttam Kumar Award” from Legendary actor Tarun Kumar (Brother of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar). Soumyen has performed extensively within India and abroad and was invited to sing at the “Bango Sanskritik Sammelan” in Liverpool and other performances in London, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff and Bolton. He has also performed in USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Singapore, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.
B.B.C, Houston Bangla Radio, Akasbani F.M. Centre, Kolkata Doordarsan and other Satellite Channels often broadcast his performance and interviews.
His cover versions of songs by Hemant Kumar have been published through various music companies like HMV, Gathani, Beethoven Records, Raga Music, HT Cassette, Miley Mishey, UD Series to name a few.
