East meets West – Music from the UK and India
Dionysus Ensemble
Get Direction

This musical programme showcases the fusion of Western Classical music with Indian Traditional music, by combining the strings and tabla of the internationally renowned Dionysus Ensemble. Classical works and Bollywood music combine with modern Indian pieces to explore exciting reimagining of timeless traditional sounds and the cross continent collaboration of musical ideas.

A virtuosic chamber ensemble with a string quartet at its core, The Dionysus Ensemble are equally at home on the concert platform, playing for events in both formal and informal settings, as well as providing music education projects.

Appointed Ensemble in Residence for the Commonwealth Resounds, The Dionysus Ensemble performed for Her Majesty the Queen at the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in March which was broadcast live by the BBC. Senior members of the royal family joined heads of state from all 53 member nations in a service of celebration for Commonwealth Day.

Since then they have performed for Secretary-General Patricia Scotland at a private reception at Marlborough House and for the Royal Commonwealth Society at Spencer House.

They have partnered with Jesuit Missions to deliver music education projects in their schools on Climate Change and the Blue Charter, and are developing projects with several High Commissioners to share our music and expertise with musicians and young people around the Commonwealth.
