Puish Kumar Engineer is a disciple of the current head of the Benaras Gharana, Pandit Sanju Sahai. He has been under Panditji’s tutelage since the age of 11 and has received and still is receiving extensive training in the Benaras style of Tabla playing.
Puish has performed solos and accompanied a wide range of well-known artists at a number of high profile venues and events such as The Royal Albert Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Royal Philharmonic Hall, The Bridgewater Hall, The Cultural Festival – Belfast, The Global Music Festival – Helsinki, London Mela, Southampton Mela and the BBC Superpower World Music and Radio Celebration.
In this performance, Puish Kumar displays the powerful yet subtle musical tones of the Benaras style of Tabla playing, also presenting dynamic traditional compositions which were composed 100s of years ago.
