In this exhilarating and moving dance, music and storytelling performance, Annapurna Indian Dance pays homage to the forgotten soldiers from undivided India, who fought for Britain during WWI.
India in 1914, as part of the British Empire, raised the largest volunteer army for the Great War. The Times News Paper reported “The Indian Empire has overwhelmed the British Nation by the completeness and unanimity of its enthusiastic aid.” The soldiers served in places as diverse as France and Belgium, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Gallipoli, Palestine and Sinai. Approximately 1.3 million Indian soldiers served in WWI and over 74,000 of them lost their lives.
